It is funny and childish, but clever. So-crates is what I think of when I think of Bill and Ted; Beethoven jamming in the mall; Bonaparte at the water park; Lincoln's surprisingly easy and cool assimilation into the 80s atmosphere. I thought this third installment would be about music. It wasn't. I realized in the end the song that would bind all space, time, and people wasn't supposed to be a good song, just "a" song, any song (void of creativity or novelty) that was meant only to summon anthem to bring people together. The end song seemed like a movie song, not an original song close to anything great like something from This is Spinal Tap, Once, or even Rock Star-Mark Wahlberg singing "The Touch" in Boogies Night is outstanding compared to the original song in this movie because it leaves an impression. Kid Kudi was in this movie. It was funny he was a genius in theoretical astrophysics. Kid Kudi didn't sing in this movie, he was a promoter, and that was weird-maybe he wasn't paid enough to sing. The only other musical moments were when Louis Armstrong played trumpet (for about 15 seconds) Jimi Hendricks rocked solo (for about 15 seconds) and Mozart/Hendricks had an improvised duet (this part of the movie was beautiful to hear but it'd be hard not to enjoy Mozart and Hendrix together. How can you make a movie with Hendrix, Armstrong, Kid Kudi, and Mozart where none of them impart much.
Reprising Death in this movie was okay. For me much better than Bill and Ted's Bogus Adventure, only because the surreal and nightmare-like tone of the sequel scared the crap out of me.
Ted's daughter was the best part of this movie. At first I was annoyed by her character, then I realized as I kept watching this train-crash-in-slow-motion movie that she was the only person that did any acting. I liked Missy's part in this movie, as I did in the first movie. Her part adds to the slap-stick humor from the first movie.
I mostly found this movie disturbing. Bill and Ted's acting was really bad and weird. Their travels back in time finding their future selves was really bizarre and unfounded. I felt like this movie was two different movies forced together in the end. I don't have much to say about Billie. I would characterize Billie's part as a lot of facial expressions, which reminds me of the one person in your friend group no one likes but for some reason is always there.
I would not say not to watch it, because I had to since I love Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure; but I will caution that I almost fell asleep 20 minutes into it, so grab a five hour energy and tape your eyelids open.
